The vascularization of tissue engineered products represents a key issue in regenerative medicine to be addressed before the translation of these protocols to the bedside can be foreseen.

Here we propose a multistep procedure to prepare vascularized three-dimensional cardiac bio-substitutes by dynamic cultures and highly porous biocompatible gelatin scaffolds.

The strategy adopted exploits the peculiar differentiation potential of two distinct subsets of adult stem cells to obtain human vascularized 3D cardiac tissues.

2014.02.01

Stem cell responsiveness to extracellular matrix (ECM) composition and mechanical cues has been the subject of a number of investigations so far, yet the molecular mechanisms underlying stem cell mechanobiology still need full clarification. Here we demonstrate that the paralog proteins YAP and TAZ exert a crucial role in adult cardiac progenitor cell mechano-sensing and fate decision.
